Getting Ready for Sunday August 14, 2011

crowd in worship

There is something special about the people of God coming together for worship (Hebrews 10:24-25). Thus, we hope Sundays at New City are a highlight of your week. In an effort to help you get more out of it, we're posting a short preview of the upcoming Sunday gathering.

We continue in our Origins series this week (click here for past sermons and study guides). The teaching will be from Genesis 8:20 - 9:17  "Noah and a New Beginning." Most commentators point out that this text looks like a sermon from God to Noah. To prepare, read through the text and ask how God's words to Noah affect the way you understand your purpose in the world.

In our gathering this week we'll confess our need for Jesus and tell the story of redemption through our singing and by using the Apostles' Creed. As usualy, we'll to pray together for our church, for our community and for the world. As act of stewardship, we'll also worship through giving.

Songs we'll sing this week include (if you're reading this on google reader, you'll need to click to our website to play the songs):

Pray that God would meet with us as we gather together this week. Pray especially for all our children's workers, sacrificing being the service to care for our little ones. Pray also for visitors to feel warmly welcomed. Pray for God to be glorified, Christians to be built up, and people seeking truth to understand the gospel.
